Father Bart Timmerman speaks about how St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church takes the call to engage in the New Evangelization quite seriously. Knowing that Mass attendance, baptisms and marriages in the Church are down, we must do our part to turn this scenario around. The lives and souls of so many people adrift in the modern world depend upon it. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church developed a five-year plan to address this crisis of discipleship by becoming an evangelizing parish. Our vision is to bring people into a much deeper relationship with Jesus Christ so that we love God, love others and make disciples. We would like our parishioners to encounter Jesus Christ in such a way as to change how they live, how they pray and how they engage other people.
Father explains that our mission field is right here in our very own families and circles of influence. Through small faith group formation, Alpha as well as the Relit program, we’re prepared to go forth to make disciples of the people we encounter within our daily lives. We plan to actively re-engage those baptized members of our families and friends who have fallen away. St. Thomas Aquinas parishioners learn how to share the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ, not only from the head, but especially from the heart.
Many Catholics have never been invited to truly build a personal relationship with Jesus and then share that experience with others. Over the next five years, our own parish families will be equipped with the new methods and tools necessary to build a deep and lasting relationship with Jesus in a way that will change their lives.
